I see the idea of googlbation going mainstream. I know it’s kind of a strong word and I still like google but I like the fact more bloggers (and very respectable ones) are joining the ride.
For those who missed my original post - Googlebation - A disorder which causes victims to associate the utmost wisdom, wizardry and solid business foresight to any move Google makes. Physical effects of Googlebation include victim’s jaw to grossly expand, white froth to come out the side of their mouth, while mumbling…”did you see what Google just came out with…did you see…did you see!“.
… now I want to see something real interesting – an operating system, a browser, an alternative world wide web, one where you type GGG instead of WWW. For that call me at 2AM and get me out of bed. But the CL2… give me a break! it’s only a freaking calendar!

I read an interesting point of view yesterday. Since the most important feature of GOOG spreadsheets is “save as XLS”, GOOG is a complimentary service to excel. Therefore one can assume that GOOG is not fighting Microsoft, and specifically not office, but for the sharing / web based editing environment.
That being said, this doesnt mean we should enjoy every Google fart as if it were perfume. I know a fart when I smell one.
06.08.06 @ 9:21 am[…] Let’s start with spreadsheets. We’re all experiencing a lot of buzz lately, propelled mostly by Google and their recent launch of Google Spreadsheets. While the public discussion is not free of Googlebation, other solutions such as Zoho and iRows receive rave reviews and are considered by many to be much better. ThinkFree offers an online collaborative office suite, spreadsheets included…so many options, so little time, how can one choose??? […]

Speaking of which, I can’t help wondering what Google Spreadsheet implies for the rest of us. True, I don’t expect it to have any success whatsoever, nor do I see enterprise users trust Google with their sensitive data and uptime requirements.
06.08.06 @ 4:08 amHowever, there seems to be an interesting implication here - forget about MSFT - what does it mean for web2.0 / open source folks out there, trying to make a living? Will GOOG strive to dominate the “I’m not Microsoft” market by giving away free apps - leveraging its search/media revenue stream to monopolize/kill other markets (hmm… where have I heard that one before)? Where does that leave OpenOffice, and a dozen other office wanna-be’s?
(of course this is an issue iff GOOG is successful, which it won’t be).
