A disorder which causes victims to associate the utmost wisdom, wizardry and solid business foresight to any move Google makes. Physical effects of Googlebation include victim’s jaw to grossly expand, white froth to come out the side of their mouth, while mumbling…”did you see what Google just came out with…did you see…did you see!”.
I admit, I had a mild infection but I believe it’s over now. Two recent posts in Techcrunch discussed Google related news items - the CL2 exclusive screen shots (the new Google calendar) and the confirmation of Google’s acquisition of Writely, an online word processor. Of the two, I believe the latter is much more interesting but that will be taken care of in another post.
The point is that each of those posts, in addition to numerous other resources I scan, seem to create a huge amount of noise, not in any way proportional to what sound logic would classify as a regular course of business. The CL2 posts got 292 comments on Techcrunch!…it looked like a frenzy of comments and pingbacks (mine included) from all over the world. An amazing number compared to, for instance with 15 comments for the ” New Look, Features for Live.com” or roughly 30 comments average a regular post gets. OK – it was a leak which makes it more news worthy and exciting…but the reaction smells more like Googlebation to me, than anything else.
Google is certainly an interesting company to follow. They have an opportunity to do what they want, so all us common folk are waiting to see what decisions they actually make. I guess people have been caught up in what has become a magical journey of a small start up, now on top of the world. It is kind of romantic, but this is where I bail out (the same way I do when my wife wants me to watch a Hugh Grant movie). I participated in the standing ovation, now I want to see something real interesting – an operating system, a browser, an alternative world wide web, one where you type GGG instead of WWW. For that call me at 2AM and get me out of bed. But the CL2… give me a break it’s only a calendar.
BTW - Google are not to be blamed for the outbreak of this annoying disorder. In fact I’m sure they are just as baffled how this came to be. Perhaps their next acquisition will be a super innovative bio-tech company with a cure for Googlebation, now that’s something to rave about!

Good one, this Googlebation disease is getting out of control. I had a brief outbreak and my colleagues are terminally ill, I believe.
